- Program Helps Parents Prepare for Summer Driving Season

2006-05-30 -- General Motors Chairman and CEO J. Richard Wagoner Jr., New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, Representative Charles Rangel (D-Harlem), and dozens of community and business leaders will celebrate the recent opening of the first car dealerships in Harlem in more than 40 years by providing car-seat inspections and instructions to parents.
Motor accidents are the leading cause of death for children, and nearly 8,000 New York City children were injured last year. Properly installed seats can reduce deaths by more than 70 percent, but only a fraction of children are correctly secured. Safe Kids Worldwide experts will demonstrate to families how to fit seats and secure their children.
